BROWN, WINFIELD & CANZONERI
INVOLVED IN AWARD-WINNING DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

Law Firm Playing Significant Role in Award-Winning Developments
Honored at CRA's 2002 Annual Conference & Expo

May 16, 2002 (Los Angeles, CA) - The Los Angeles law firm of Brown, Winfield & Canzoneri, Inc. (BWC) continues to make an impact in 2002 in California Redevelopment. The California Redevelopment Association has recently presented awards to three redevelopment projects in which BWC attorneys played a major role - each was a recipient of an Award of Excellence - at the CRA's 2002 Annual Conference & Expo.

The Redevelopment Agency of the City of Huntington Beach's PLAZA ALMERIA won   the Mixed-Use Development Award, Monrovia Redevelopment Agency's OLD TOWN THEATRE PROJECT won the Community Revitalization Award, and Long Beach Redevelopment Agency/Long Beach Housing Development Company won the Single Family Residential Development Award for the RENAISSANCE WALK project.

"It's truly an honor to see three projects that attorneys in our firm worked on be recognized," noted BWC's Dennis Roy. "While we see the fruits of our labors in the overall success of a project, it's rewarding to have those efforts also recognized by members of the industry."

The CRA Award of Excellence Program brings statewide public and professional recognition to projects and programs that have made exemplary contributions to the redevelopment process, resulting in the betterment of communities.

The three winning projects that Brown, Winfield & Canzoneri was involved in showcase the firm's experience in handling both public and private redevelopment projects and litigation involving them.

Tom Winfield, one of BWC's founding attorneys, stated, "Our strength in representing both public and private clients in redevelopment projects has become a driving force for the firm. We are particularly pleased to have represented clients in three of this year's award winning projects."

Plaza Almeria is the revitalized downtown core of Huntington Beach, newly developed to include 30,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, 10,000 square feet of office space and 40,000 square feet of townhomes and associated parking structures. BWC represented the developer in the settlement process and the negotiation of the disposition and development agreement (DDA) with the City. BWC also successfully represented both the developer and the City in litigation challenging the project.

As for the Renaissance Walk, BWC represented the Long Beach Housing Development Company in its efforts to assemble and then transfer the development site to the Olson Company allowing the creation of three- and four-bedroom, single-family homes with an adjacent day care center (the first time a childcare center has been included in the master plan for a larger residential development in the City of Long Beach).

The Old Town Theatre Project in Monrovia has revived Monrovia's Old Town by creating a multi-screen theatre that anchors a new, vibrant central shopping and entertainment district. During development, BWC negotiated the acquisition from the agency of the properties comprising the theatre. In the year it took to negotiate and document the deal and complete the transaction, the project evolved from its earliest incarnations in order to better fulfill the needs of the area and the public.
